I found out about Garcia de Marina when I was living in a village in Segovia in the year 2016. They were the days of SegoviaFoto and the exhibitions of different photographers began. Although before going to an exhibition I usually investigate a little about who is behind the camera, that day I was a little unaware of who he was.
Over the release of his exhibition I found out then that he was from Gijón. Those conceptual photos of objects with a message caught my attention instantly. Then all my attention turned to the talk he gave afterward on creativity. I was hooked in such a way that time flew by. He was short on time that day to talk to us about the creative process and it seemed to me also too short.
Years later I had the honor he introduced my first joint exhibition with the photographer Carlos Conde «Tales of Liquerique», in one of the rooms of the Centro de Cultura Antiguo Instituo. Also attend a workshop he gave on the creative process at La Laboral in Gijón.
Lo and behold, years later, he would be at photography festivals of the highest level, exhibiting in a large number of countries and represented by the most prestigious art galleries.
The documentary "Chronicles of a trip" directed by José Mata reveals that wonderful journey over 10 years told by people who were by his side in a certain way. An exciting story of someone who, seeing the water footprints that his daughter left on the floor when she got out of the shower, gives him an idea for a photograph. And that was only the beginning.
The release of the documentary precedes an exhibition that will take place in Centro Cultura Antiguo Instituto of Gijon. 250 images including his most iconic photographs and new works. It will be an exhibition to taste slowly and calmly and enjoy that visual poetry that distinguish his work. It is a retrospective but at the same time a way to start another stage full of successes.
