Solipsism, from the Latin "[ego] solus ipse" (roughly translatable as "only I exist"), is the metaphysical belief that the only thing one can be sure of is the existence of one's own mind, and the reality that seemingly surrounds them is unknowable and might, on one hand, be nothing more than part of one's own mental states.
