In March 2020, a lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic began. No one expected that we would have to be confined to our homes without being able to go out for almost two months. Some struggled with not being able to socialize and go out for a drink at bars, while others missed visiting their family members. I missed going for walks on the city streets to take photographs. Urban photographs, where the main characters are the inhabitants of this city. But I had neither streets nor characters.

After several days of confinement, feeling somewhat disoriented and unsettled, I find myself one day looking out the window as it rains. The glass panes frame the scene: a palm tree and dark clouds in the background. I pick up my camera and take the photo. But something is missing. I’m missing my character—that figure with an umbrella I usually look for when I’m out on a rainy day. I come up with the idea of making a silhouette of a man with an umbrella using cardboard, and I place it on the window. And that’s how the story of “Ciudad Interior” begins, lasting as long as the mandatory confinement.

​In this way, the idea of taking a daily photograph in an imagined, personal city emerged—a city that reflects my concerns, cinematic preferences, personality, in short, my inner world that I had often tried to capture in my photographs but now, in addition to photographing it, I would also create it.

​I search for objects at home that can help me recreate a scene. I use things like flashes or the built-in flashlights on mobile phones for backlighting, cardboard, stones, plastic water bottles, spoons... Suddenly, all those objects I had saved without knowing why regain meaning.

​Movies, music, literature, TV series, travel... All of this serves as inspiration for me to create a particular scene.

And this was the result. Images that allowed me to travel with my imagination.
