Angels and Demons

I’m always in search of new photographic series and collections. After so many years dedicated to photography, it’s not easy to reinvent oneself and capture the same landscapes, objects that pique my curiosity, beaches, mountains, cities, and other familiar corners from a fresh perspective. Opening your mind isn’t always an easy task, but it’s an enriching exercise that teaches you a lot. Sometimes, small changes can make a big difference: using a different camera, experimenting with a new focal length I hadn’t used before, placing a deliberately ‘dirty’ filter to create a different atmosphere, or simply changing the shooting angle. This playful approach can be key to boosting creativity and productivity.

I remember one day walking along a beach in Galicia. I stopped to observe some seaweed scattered on the sand. They had always caught my attention, though I never quite knew why. Then I thought: why not photograph them? Some looked like strange creatures, almost like bugs from another world. And that’s how the idea for a series called Monsters.

On another walk, on a different day, what caught my eye were some delicately scattered feathers. The “monsters” weren’t there this time, but the feathers stirred something in me. I decided to focus on them and began a new series that I called Angels.

One day, inspiration struck, and I decided to merge both collections and give them a joint title: Angels and Demons. The feathers, light and ethereal, evoked the serenity of the celestial; while the seaweed, with its twisted and mysterious forms, seemed to emerge from the darkest depths of the sea. Two opposing worlds, equally fascinating and beautiful in their contrast.
